WHY ARE MONTESSORI SCHOOLS SO EXPENSIVE?

In France, it is very rare to find a public Montessori school due to constraints and restrictions placed by education in the public sector.  Therefore, Montessori schools do not benefit from governmental financial aid and must rely only on tuition for the costs of the daily operation of the school. ​

WHY ENROLL MY CHILD AT A MONTESSORI SCHOOL AT THE EARLY AGE OF SCHOOL, ISN’T SHE TOO YOUNG FOR SCHOOL?

“From 0 to 6 is the most important part of life, and this applies to character development also.”  (194)   The young child is on a quest towards independence and is very susceptible to the whims of adults.  The child needs a trained adult to be an aid to her development.  The ability to be an educator is not created with the birth of the first child.  “It is often we who obstruct the child, and so become responsible from anomalies that last a lifetime.” (131)  The child before the age of six is a fragile one and we should treat her as such.  Even well meaning nannies or teachers can damage the delicate mind of the young child.  “A child of six may show an accumulation of characteristics which are not really his own, but are the result of earlier misfortunes.” (196) - Excerpts from The Absorbent Mind

WILL MY CHILD BE ABLE TO ADAPT TO A PUBLIC SCHOOL AFTER A MONTESSORI SCHOOL?

After the age of 12 children may need to reintegrate into the public school.  However, this should not pose any difficulties for the child because a paramount focus of the child’s development during his formative years in the Montessori program is one of adaptation.  “Education is a work of self-organization by which man adapts himself to the conditions of life.”  Maria Montessori ​

WILL MONTESSORI HOSSEGOR ACCEPT MY CHILD THAT IS UNDER 2 ½ YEARS OLD? ​

Montessori education recognizes the distinctions at each stage of development in a child’s life.  Children under three belong in an environment that Montessori education calls the Assistant to Infancy environment.  In the A to I environment the child’s psychological needs are meet along her physical needs with apparatus that is even smaller then those found in our Children’s House.  Currently, Montessori Hossegor does not have an Assistant to Infancy program.  Children are accepted based on their level of independence.  Montessori Hossegor’s consideration of a child into the program generally begins around 2 years 8 months of age.  Families wishing to secure a spot in our school before their child’s third birthday may complete a waiting list/application form.

DO MONTESSORI PROGRAMS FOLLOW THE NATIONAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM?

A Montessori program by its very nature cannot follow the programs set forth by the Education Nationale but it does however, respect the benchmarks set down by the EN.  MH ensures that children are at a grade level typical of other children their age.

DOES THE GOVERNMENT RECOGNIZE MONTESSORI HOSSEGOR?

Yes, the school is declared with the Marie, prefecture, and with the Education National.  The school is also established as an ERP building to welcome children in a school setting.

WILL MY CHILD’S ADAPTATION TO A TOTAL IMMERSION IN ENGLISH BE DIFFICULT?

Children and especially young children at the age of three adapt quickly to their environment.  Your child’s psyche is comforted by the fact that Montessori environments are catered to both the psychical and psychological needs of your child.  Our school is accustomed to welcoming non-English speaking children into our environments and ensures that the child knows how to address his immediate needs.   Children are also welcomed, assisted and aided by our older children in their environment.

HOW DOES LUNCH FUNCTION AT MONTESSORI HOSSEGOR?

Children bring their lunches to school in a lunch bag.  Children eat inside our environments in a communal setting.
