Why choose an AMI school?

The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) is the recognized authority on the application of the Montessori approach to education.  Maria Montessori, who gave her name to the method, founded AMI.  Not all Montessori schools are alike, because the name "Montessori" is not protected by copyright and anyone wishing to use the name "Montessori" can do so.  To ensure that the Montessori method is applied according to the approach defined by Dr. Maria Montessori, a parent needs to find an AMI school.  Schools that offer a variety of different teaching methods and include Montessori as one of these elements have a negative impact on the integrity of the Montessori method and simply cannot offer a Montessori education.

A Montessori classroom:

  • Includes an AMI-trained teacher.

  • Is made up of a mixed-age group, either a range of three years or six years in each class.

  • Has an uninterrupted work period of three hours in the morning and two to three hours in the afternoon.

  • Has a complete set of materials for each class from an AMI-approved manufacturer.
